Guidelines

The nature of the scholarship will be based on accomplishments and the amount will be determined by the dollars collected through membership fees, grants, and donations.  The only condition governing the use of these dollars is that they be used to further education at an accredited institute of higher education, including technical schools, junior and community colleges and universities.  These scholarships will be considered gifts and will be paid directly to the institution upon receipt of proof of acceptance and enrollment.  The availability of these scholarships will be publicized through LISD and Academic Advocates websites, LISD counselors, newsletters and local newspapers.

A selection committee will determine who is awarded scholarships.  This committee will be comprised of one district principal, one high school counselor, one representative of corporate membership and two Academic Advocates Executive Board members.  No individual will be allowed to serve on the selection committee while any of his/her family members are being considered for scholarship.

The scholarships will be awarded by blind selection and shall be made available without regard to race, color, creed or national origin.

Eligibility

Current enrollment in a Leander Independent School District  high school with at least  two (2) consecutive years in district attendance will be required for students.

Applicants must show a striving toward academic excellence or improvement, not merely high averages.

These scholarships will be considered gifts and will be paid directly to institutions upon receipt of proof of acceptance and enrollment.

The scholarships will be awarded by blind selection and shall be made available without regard to race, color, creed or national origin.

Applicants are expected to adhere to the Leander ISD Student Code of Conduct and Ethical Principles as documented in the annual Student Handbook and on the district website ( http://www.leanderisd.org/). Behavior that reflects negatively on the District or Academic Advocates may be cause for withdrawal of the award.

Receipt of the award is contingent on successful completion of all graduation requirements. The award is to be used for fall enrollment following graduation. If for any reason the awardee does not use the scholarship, it will be awarded to the runner up.

There is no procedure for supervising scholarship awards after being paid directly to the institute of higher learning.

A high school transcript and one letter of reference from school staff will be required.
