Minutes for August 25, 2004
1. Call to Order and Pledge.
At 7 P.M. we called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Everyone went around and introduced themselves.
2. Minutes & Correspondence. Minutes for the May 2004 meeting were approved by the Board in June and posted to the website.
3. Treasurer's report. The treasurer's report was given. We have $2,343.14. The new budget totaling $3525 was proposed. It was voted on and approved.
4. Committee reports: (membership, scholarship, nominating, special events) Ray Cowperthwaite gave the report on membership that we need to work on bringing up the number of members.
5. Brainstorming. Goals and Objectives revisited: Meeting speakers, activities
We started on discussions on what we can do to help students, teachers and parents.
-- We discussed having a curriculum based academic-UIL competition. It was brought
up that maybe for teachers that were interested, they would get materials that were paid
for. We would need to find out what principals would be interested in having a com-
petition. We would also need to find if there are any video's or CD's on competitions
that can be shown to these principals. We would possibly help out with the cost for
incentives.
-- It was brought up that High School students could possibly help out with these com-
petitions. They could help out in areas such as with filming/photos or possibly
journalism.
-- An idea was brought up that maybe pictures of students with the most improved grade
point average per semester could be hung up. Maybe 5-10 students per grade.
-- An idea to help seniors was brought up. Maybe we could find a toastmaster club.
Then they could come in and help the seniors with their presentations of the Sr.
Projects.
-- The last idea that was brought up was maybe having an Academic Expo. Have this
possibly in March. This would be businesses or groups with information on school,
graduation or going into college. Examples that were given were banks, insurance
companies, summer school, tutoring and College Board.
