LISD Academic Advocates
April 24, 2002
Minutes
Present: E. Frey, C. Cavalli, P. Manly, E. Mittag,
S. Johnson, M Hosier
1. Meeting called to order with the pledge at 7 pm.
2. Bylaws changes proposed at March meeting approved unanimously.
Article VI: Section 3b March changed to April;
Article VII: Section 3a "within 48 hours" changed to "within five days after approval of the membership."
3. Audit of financial statement. Susan Johnson,
Erika Mittag and Chris Cavalli will meet prior to the May meeting to audit
the treasurer's books.
4. Chris Cavalli presented the Nominating Committee slate for the
upcoming school year. Marilyn Hosier moved and Susan Johnson seconded that we accept the slate as presented.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Academic Advocates Board for 2002-2003:
- President: Elizabeth Frey
- Vice President: Chris Cavalli
- Secretary/Web page: Erika Mittag
- Treasurer: Fatteneh Hashemi
- Membership/ Publicity: Jeremy Story
- High School: Chris Kay
- Middle School: Judy True (RBMS)
- Elementary School: Shana Nardecchia
5. Pam Manly reported that 7 student scholarship applications
had been received with representation from both high schools. E. Mittag
agreed to be an additional reviewer. The selection of two awardees
wll be made before the high school honors banquets.
6. Monta Akin, LISD asst. superintendent for Instructional
Services has invited representatives of Academic Advocates to meet with
relevant district staff to discuss the concerns raised in the April 18
LISD School Board meeting. C Cavalli, E. Mittag and S. Nardecchia
will attend the May 1 meeting.
7. Ann Wink of TEA (our January speaker) will present
at the May 16th LISD School Board Meeting. Notice will be sent to
the Academic Advocates e-mail list.
8. May 15 meeting will be a planning meeting for the coming
school year. Those on the e-mail list will be encouraged to attend
and/or submit ideas via e-mail.
9. After a period of general discussion, the meeting adjourned
at 8:30.
