Leander Independent School District

A regular meeting of the Leander Independent School District Academic Advocates Association was called to order at 7:00 PM on January 30, 2002.

Officers Present:  Elizabeth Frey, Chris Cavalli, Pam Manly, Walt Manly, Chris Kay, Diane Jaeger and Lori Horton.

Minutes:  The minutes of the October and November meetings were approved as read.

Financial Report:  As Walt Manly was going to be a few minutes late, Pam Manly provided reports on the current financial status.  Copies of these reports are attached. 

Membership Report:  Pam Manly reported that we have three new members.

High School Campus Coordinator’s Report:  Chris Kay reported that the All A Honor Roll listing for Leander High School is complete and they need help on the Recognition Committee.

Vice President’s Report:  Chris Cavalli reported that the District Committee on Advanced Courses had compiled their “Advanced Courses Profile for Grades 9-12”.  A copy of this report is attached. 

Calendar Update: March 15, 2002 – Deadline for applications for grants/scholarships.
  March 27, 2002 – Next Academic Advocates Meeting

President’s Report:  Elizabeth Frey again reminded everyone that the deadline for applying for student scholarships and staff/faculty grants is next month and asked everyone to help get the word out so more applications will be received.

Program:  Ann Wink, Director of Elementary Gifted Education for the Texas Education Agency, was our guest speaker.  She provided a very informative program on the subject of differentiation followed by a lengthy question and answer period.
